Super Bowl Parade and the Emerson Campus

Dear Emerson community,

On Tuesday, February 5, there will be a parade in Boston for Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. The parade/rolling rally of about 25 Duck Boats carrying Patriots players, coaches and family members is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.

The route for the rally starts at the Hynes Convention Center on Boylston Street, continues down Boylston Street, left onto Tremont Street to Cambridge Street, ending on Cambridge Street near City Hall. This means that the Duck Boats in the parade will travel through the heart of Emerson’s campus, arriving approximately between 12:00 – 1:00 pm.  Information about road restrictions is available here.

From past parade experiences, crowds will begin to gather early, starting around 9:30 am. Moving along the sidewalks on Boylston and Tremont streets will be difficult. There will likely be Boston Police barriers on both sides of the street, with no crossing allowed from the Boston Common side, including to and from the Boylston Street Green Line Station.

For this reason, and out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of our community members, the College has determined that the classes with the following start times are canceled on Tuesday, February 5:

  • 8:30 am
  • 9:00 am
  • 10:00 am
  • 11:30 am
  • 12:00 pm
  • 1:00 pm

All other classes that start at 8:00 am, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, will proceed as scheduled. Please note that all administrative offices will operate under normal schedules. Any further changes or updates will be posted on Emerson Today https://today.emerson.edu/

We realize that the crowds on Tuesday will make it difficult to pass through the streets so please allow extra time to get to a class or to move about campus during this time.

If you plan to view the parade, the College has arranged for Bon Appetit to provide snacks for community members on the second floor of the Walker Building (rooms 201, 231, 232), as well as on the second floor student lounge area of Piano Row.

For security purposes, exterior building doors on College buildings, including residence halls and the Dining Hall, will remain locked from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm; however, students, faculty and staff will be able to “tap in” to enter. The Dining Hall will be open normal hours; however, students should access the facility through the 25 Boylston Place entrance. The College Bookstore will be closed from 9:30 am to approximately 2:00 pm.

For community members who use the Boston Common Garage for parking, please note that between 10:00 am–4:00 pm the entrance to the garage will be restricted. You will still be able to leave the garage during those posted hours.

The Emerson College Police Department (ECPD) will keep the entryways to Emerson buildings clear. As usual, only Emerson students, faculty, staff, and authorized visitors will have access.

If you plan to attend Tuesday’s parade, have fun and please be safe!

Sincerely,

Lee Pelton
