The Last Few Minutes as Emerson Students

Emerson College Today talked to some members of the Class of 2018 as they were waiting to line up for the Undergraduate Commencement processional. Students were selected more or less at random.

Anneliese du Boulay

Design/Technology

One word going through your head: Excited.

Favorite class or professor: Scott Pinkney …. because … he’s very chill and insightful, and it’s just always calm and relaxing to be around him.

What will you miss most about Emerson?: I will miss my friend Mitchell the most.

Do you know what’s next?: I graduated in December. I live in LA and I’m a teacher at a high school.

Mitchell Girgasky

Design/Technology

One word going through your head: I want to say “anxious,” but I also want to say “ready.”

Favorite class or professor: That’s so hard. I really liked … Outsiders and Insiders with Sam Binkley. That class was great. I truly I thought it was a class that everybody should have to take.

What will you miss the most?: I am going to miss the community … friends, the tightknit community that is our major.

Do you know what’s next?: Next is work. I’m going to South Carolina tomorrow to go back to work.

Iris Peña

Writing, Literature and Publishing

One word going through your head: Excited?

Favorite class or professor: My favorite professor was Lisa Diercks. I feel like I learned a lot. I came wanting to do writing and publishing, but I feel like a I learned a lot about design through her so I got really interested [in that]. She’s very hands on.

What will you miss the most?: I think I will miss the library the most. I really like the resources available, especially … the database online, but also the stuff they have in the library itself.

Do you know what’s next?:  No I don’t know, not yet.

Mary Jane Baker

Communication Studies

One word going through your head: Appreciation.

Favorite class or professor: One of my favorite classes was Conflict and Negotiation with Israela Brill-Cass. I loved all of my teachers but she was very special. She was just very genuine and raw, and during her course was a very particular time, politically, and on campus overall, so she was just very supportive and genuine.

What will you miss the most?: I will miss the Communications Studies Department and its faculty very much.

Do you know what’s next?: I’m moving to Manhattan and beginning a PR career.

Jinghan Zhu

Communication Studies

One word going through your head: Actually I’m very calm right now because I think I deserve all this. I worked hard and I got into the school I wanted to…for graduate school, the University of Chicago.

Favorite class or professor: I’m impressed by my major courses, but … I think [where] I learned [the] most is the [Liberal Arts] courses like economics and science. I took a lot of classes with [Associate] Professor Wyatt Oswald, and we also did science research together. So the class I took with him is Natural Disaster and Climate Change. For [my] master’s degree I’m doing public policy; I want to focus on environmental issues.

What will you miss the most?: Some of the wonderful people I met here.

Do you know what’s next?: UChicago.

Jack Worth

Visual and Media Arts

One word going through your head: Tired.

Favorite class or professor: [Assistant Professor of Journalism] Mike Brown is the man. Actually, you got a lot out of his class. I took like three of his classes, ‘cause I took one, and I was like, ‘Don’t have any reason to do another one other than I liked it, so let’s do some more.’

What will you miss the most?: The Ultimate Frisbee Team

Do you know what’s next?: I am living in Boston and I got a place in the North End and [I’m] working here [in Boston].

Noah Wisch

Visual and Media Arts

One word going through your head: Excited.

Favorite class or professor: Studio Recording with Mark Van Bork. It was a lot of fun, I learned a lot about recording techniques and stuff like that.

What will you miss the most?: My friends on the Frisbee team.

Do you know what’s next?: I’m living in Western Massachusetts and directing commercials for a ukulele company.
