Emerson Launches Broadway Series

The Office of Alumni Relations is launching a Broadway theater series featuring talkbacks with Emerson alumni working in all facets of the theater business. All Emerson alumni, students, parents, and friends of the College are invited to attend.

Emerson on Broadway kicks off Wednesday, May 3, at the Broadhurst Theatre on West 44th Street, with Anastasia, followed by a discussion with executive producer Eric Cornell ’05 and press agent Jessica Johnson ’01.

Upcoming events include Amelie at the Walter Kerr Theater on Thursday, June 29, featuring swing and dance captain Emily Afton ’07; and Miss Saigon at the Broadway Theater on Tuesday, August 15, featuring production stage manager Davin De Santis ’09.

Alumni Affairs had a chance to connect with one of the featured alumni, Eric Cornell, to ask him about his Emerson experience and why he chooses to stay connected with Emerson.

AA: Why did you choose to become involved with the Emerson on Broadway series?

EC: It’s great to celebrate and share in the work of fellow alumni who are all in the same field. Supporting one another as part of both the Emerson and Broadway communities is important.

AA: How did Emerson shape your career path?

EC: Attending a focused program helped me establish my strengths and find contacts to begin my career.

AA: What are some aspects of your show you are particularly excited to share?

EC: This show is one of the most beautiful productions I have worked on. This show is especially meaningful as it is the first…I have worked on since the beginning and had a direct hand in [its] development and creation…

AA: What does it mean to you to be able to speak about your experience working on Broadway in front of fellow Emerson alumni, students, and friends of the College?

EC: I think it is essential that the Emerson community see that there are many behind-the-scenes alumni working on Broadway and the live entertainment industry.

AA: Why/how do you look forward to staying connected with Emerson in the future?

EC: It’s great to connect with Emersonians both from my class years, but also those who attended before or after me, and share in our passion for live entertainment.
