Emerson Women’s Basketball Claims Tip Off Tournament Championship

The annual Emerson Women’s Basketball Tip Off Tournament championship game came down to the wire, but in a thrilling conclusion, the Lions were able to pull ahead and defeat the Wesleyan Cardinals, 57–53, on Sunday, November 20. Emerson rises to 2–1 on the season, while Wesleyan drops to 1–1.

In the consolation game, the Suffolk Rams defeated the Simmons Sharks, 81–50, bringing Suffolk to 2–1 and Simmons to 0–2 overall.

Sierra Ducey ’18 (Poway, California) was Tournament MVP. The All-Tournament Team included Maya Savino ’18 (Killingworth, Connecticut) and Natalie Busch ’19 (Weybridge, England), Wesleyan’s Danielle Gervacio and Maeve Vitale, and Suffolk’s Georgia Bourikas.

Ducey had 19 points for the Lions and added six rebounds. Right behind her was Charlie Boyle ’19 (Scotts Valley, California) with 13 points and six rebounds. Savino rounded out the Emerson scoring with eight points and a blocked shot.

On Saturday, November 19, the first day of the tournament saw Emerson beat Simmons, 77–67, and Wesleyan defeat Suffolk, 59–54, in overtime.

Lead scorers for the Lions on Saturday were Busch and Ducey, with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Ducey led the Lions in rebounds with 18 and had three blocked shots. Eastin Ashby ’18 (Pittston, Pennsylvania) had 11 points and six steals, while Elizabeth Horan ’17 (Ashland, Massachusetts) added nine points, three rebounds, and two steals. Natalie Clydesdale ’20 (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) rounded out the Lions’ offense with seven points of her own and three rebounds.
