Emerson Hosts First Round of D3 Women’s Volleyball ECAC Championship

The Emerson women's volleyball team played host to three teams in the first round of the ECAC Division III Volleyball championships on Wednesday, November 9, at the Brown & Plofker Gym.

The top-ranked Lions faced visiting No. 4 Morrisville State Mustangs in the first match of the day and took a 3-0 sweep. The second match of the day consisted of No. 3 Anna Maria College against No. 2 Manhattanville, where the Valiants defeated the Amcats in three straight sets. 

With the win, Emerson moves on to the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 12, 2:00 pm, against Manhattanville

Bella Edwards ’20 (Palisades, California) powered out 15 kills and hit .652 to help lead the Emerson women’s volleyball team to a first-round 3-0 sweep over Morrisville State. After the Lions cruised to a 25-13 win in the opening frame, they powered out a 25-15 win in the second frame and halted a comeback from the Mustangs in the third set to take the 25-18 win.

Edwards paced the Lions with 15 kills, while Moira Brennan ‘19 (Glenview, Illinois) registered 31 assists. Brennan and Amanda Linzmeyer ’17 (Huntington Beach, California) each had three aces. Fara Cohen ’19 had a match-high 13 digs. Jules Augustine ’17 (Skaneateles, New York) led the defense with two blocks.

Junior Lindsey Sunderlage led Morrisville with seven kills and had one block. Senior Courtney LaVere had three aces, while first-year Samantha Wolf registered 13 digs.

In the second match of the day, Manhattanville cruised to a 25-9 victory over Anna Maria in the opening frame and banged out a 25-19 win in the second set. The Valiants closed out the match with a 25-13 win.
