Work was completed this fall on the upgrade of the Emerson College Tufte Performance and Production Center Television Facility. The project was originally planned as a straightforward upgrade from standard-definition to high-definition technology. However, with the guidance and support of alumnus Ira Goldstone ’71, the facility has been transitioned to a file-based, tapeless technology platform that is contemporary with professional HD facilities being built today. The new television facility will be flexible enough to support the rapid evolution of technology for years to come, as content creation evolves to Ultra High Definition supporting 4K resolution; high frame rates; and deeper, richer colors.

“Thanks to Ira, we now have bragging rights to the most technologically advanced university facility in the country,” said Jane Pikor, director of Television, Radio, and Film Production.

PPC Television Facility Manager Antonio Ascenso created a blog to capture project milestones.
