Keeling, former AD, loses cancer battle
Former Emerson College Athletics Director Rudy Keeling died after a courageous battle with cancer Saturday, July 6, 2013, in his Londonderry, New Hampshire, home. He was 66 years old.
Keeling served as athletics director at Emerson from 2002 to 2007. Prior to that, he served as head coach at Northeastern University from 1996 to 2001 and at the University of Maine, Orono, from 1988 to 1996.
Keeling was born on March 17, 1947, in New York City. He grew up in Harlem and attended Bishop Dubois High School in New York. Keeling played basketball at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and Quincy College in Illinois, which he later transferred to. He and his wife, Jane, raised three children, Kara, Tina, and Cory.
In addition to his tenure as head coach and athletics director at Emerson, Keeling was appointed as the Commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in May 2007. ECAC is the largest intercollegiate conference in the country. Keeling retired from that position this year.
Memorial services for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, located at 290 Mammoth Road in Londonderry, New Hampshire. Visiting hours will be from 4:30 pm until the start of the memorial service at 6:00 pm.
A public memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Emerson College’s Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym, 150 Boylston Street in Boston.
