Four alumni and an Emerson parent working in the television industry were either nominated for, or won, a 2013 Sports Emmy Award on May 7, while another three alumni have been nominated for Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards, which will be presented June 16.
Sports Emmy Awards
Nick Hesketh ’08 and Ken Gold ’08, associate producers, and Bryan Fennessey ’09, an associate director, all for MLB Tonight on the MLB Network, won for Outstanding Studio Show/Daily. Fennessey also won for Outstanding Playoff Coverage as associate director of the National League Championship Series, Cardinals vs. Giants, on FOX.
Also nominated for Outstanding Studio Show/Daily was Mark Quenzel ’82, executive producer of NFL Total Access on the NFL Network. Quenzel won two Emmys as executive producer for NFL Game Day and A Football Life, both on the NFL Network, in the categories of Outstanding Short Feature and Outstanding Sports Promotional Announcement/Episodic, respectively.
Quenzel was also nominated twice for Outstanding New Approaches to Sports Event Coverage, as executive producer for NFL Red Zone on NFL Network and The NFL Season: A Biography on NFL Media; Outstanding Edited Sports Series/Anthology, as executive producer for A Football Life on NFL Network; and Outstanding New Approaches to Sports Programming/Short Format, as executive producer of Speaking Out on NFL Media.
Dick Ebersol, P ’97, won two Emmys for Outstanding Live Sports Special, as executive producer of Super Bowl XLVI on NBC, and Outstanding Live Event Turnaround, as senior producer of Games of the XXX Olympiad on NBC.
Ebersol was nominated for Outstanding Playoff Coverage, as producer for NFL Wild Card Saturday, Bengals vs. Texans and Lions vs. Saints, on NBC; and Outstanding New Approaches to Sports Events Coverage, as producer of Super Bowl XLVI Extra on NBC.
Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards
William Ludel ’70, a director on ABC’s General Hospital, and Erica Meyer ’06, a production assistant on CBS’s The Young and the Restless, are both nominated for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team.
Glenn Meehan ’83, supervising producer of The Talk on CBS, is nominated for Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment.
