Daniel H. Black, chair of the Emerson Board of Overseers, has been named Entertainment Lawyer of the Year by the Century City Bar Association in Los Angeles. He will receive an award during a ceremony March 19.

A member of the California and New York bars, Black also serves the American Bar Association as co-chair of the Motion Pictures, Television, Cable and Radio Division of the Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries.

He has been an adjunct professor of film and television law at the University of Southern California Law School and is a frequent speaker at entertainment and media events.

Black is widely recognized for his ability to navigate easily through the cutting edge of the entertainment and traditional media business. He has served as lead counsel on numerous transactions with major motion picture studios and television networks, in addition to major Internet content producing, licensing, and advertising entities.

A New York native, Black joined the legal department at Columbia Pictures upon his move to California. He later moved to Paramount Pictures, where he headed up the business and legal affairs division. He has also worked for Weintraub Entertainment Group and Greenberg Traurig.
