Melody Madarasz '13 is one of a long list of Perofming Arts faculty, students and alumni nominated for an award from the Independent Reviewers of New England.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) recently nominated numerous Emerson College Performing Arts faculty, alumni, and students for IRNE Awards, which recognize talent in the Boston theater community.

Leading the Emerson nominees is Performing Arts Chair Melia Bensussen, who received a nomination for Best Director of a Drama (Large Theater) for her direction of Huntington Theatre Company’s production of The Luck of the Irish by Kirsten Greenidge. The production also garnered nominations for Best New Play, Best Play, Best Set Design, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.

Professor Robbie McCauley is nominated for Best Solo performance for Sugar, produced by ArtsEmerson.

Benny Sato Ambush, senior distinguished producing director-in-residence, was nominated for Best Director (Midsize Theater) for his Master Harold and the Boys at Gloucester Stage Company. Master Harold was also nominated for Best Play, Best Ensemble, and Best Actor in a Drama.

Costume Design Advisor Rafael Jaenwas nominated for Best Costume Design for The Mikado at The Lyric Stage Company of Boston.

Spiro Veloudos ’74, part-time faculty member, is nominated for Best Director of a Musical (Small/Midsize Theater) for Avenue Q at The Lyric Stage Company of Boston. Avenue Q is also nominated for Best Musical, Best Ensemble, and Best Puppet Appearance.

Joe Antoun ’91, part-time faculty member, is nominated for Best Director of a Drama (Small Theater) for The Fakus: A Noir. Fakus is also nominated for Best New Play, Best Play, and Best Lighting Design.

Part-time faculty members Brynna Bloomfield and Janie Howland were nominated for Best Set Design (Small Theater) for The Chosen at The Lyric Stage Company of Boston and Ragtime at Fiddlehead Theatre Company, respectively.

The Huntington Theatre Company’s Our Town received a nomination for Best Ensemble (Large Theater), which included in its cast Assistant Professor Craig Mathers, Emily Skeggs ’12, and Ryan Wenke ’12.

Other student and alumni nominees include Aimee Rose Ranger ’07 for Best Actress in a Drama for Fen at Whistler in the Dark Theatre; Melody Madarasz ’13 for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for Crimes of the Heart at Gloucester Stage Company; McCaela Donovan, MA ’08, for Best Actress in a Musical for Xanadu at SpeakEasy Stage Company; and Darren Evans MA ’02, for Best Director of a Drama (Small Theater) for Vincent River at Theater on Fire.

The IRNE Awards will be presented later this spring.
