New York Connection trip coming up

On Friday, March 15, undergraduate students have the opportunity to explore the Big Apple and their career paths during a day trip to New York City.

The annual New York Connection trip, organized by the Office of Alumni Relations, will allow students to gather information about professional life in New York City, meet a variety of employers in communication and the arts, and network with alumni.

Registration for the trip has begun on eHire.

Students choose one of five tracks: Marketing, Broadcast Journalism, Television, Publishing, or Public Relations/Communications. Based on their chosen track, students will visit two sites hosted by alumni working in the field. At each site, students will meet with representatives of the company or studio, tour the facility, and ask questions.

At the end of the day, students will network with alumni in what Associate Director of Alumni Relations Rachel Pearson calls a “speed dating–like” format, in which students will rotate among alumni in groups.

Pearson says the popular event is almost always oversubscribed.

“It’s a rare opportunity for students to go to New York and see alumni doing the job they’ll be doing in five or 10 years,” she said.
