Alumni’s film featured in Asian American film fest
Model Minority will be screened at the Bright Family Screening Room on Saturday, October 27, at 4:00 pm as part of the Boston Asian American Film Festival. John Matysiak ’03, Jared Kowalczyk ’11, and Jeff Kulig ’11 worked on the film as the director of photography, first assistant director, and camera/grip, respectively.
Model Minority tells the story of teenagers in Los Angeles who survive the treacherous world of peer pressure, drug dealers, juvenile hall, and dysfunctional families. Kayla, an underprivileged 16-year-old Japanese American, endangers her promising future as an artist when she becomes involved with a drug dealer. Director Lily Mariye describes Model Minority as “a film about redemption, the struggles of the 21st-century family, and hope for the future.”
Tickets to Model Minority can be purchased at the door or online by visiting artsemerson.org. General admission is $10 and the student rate is $5 (with school identification). Visit baaff.org for information on the Boston Asian American Film Festival.
