Emerson students travel to Iceland

Five Emerson students recently traveled to Iceland with the Communication, Politics, and Law Association (CPLA), in partnership with Communication Studies Associate Professor Gregory Payne’s Iceland Global Project.

While there, the students filmed a series of mini web documentaries about Icelandic history and culture and explored ways to better engage American students with international issues.

The students also met with members of parliament, public diplomacy professors, and marketing executives from the Icelandic national tourism board to help them with their documentary series, The Iceland Global Project.

“The trip was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Icelandic history, culture, and current affairs,” CPLA President Alex Castillo said. “Putting together the documentary series was incredibly fulfilling and it was fun to connect with public diplomacy and social media professionals abroad. We hope Emerson can continue to forge bonds with the people of Iceland in the future!”

CPLA was founded in 1984 to foster interest and involvement in civic engagement, politics, and social advocacy.

Besides Castillo, Kerry Velez ’12 (who was the executive producer of the films), Heather Corazzini ’12, Chris Eyer ’13, and Jeremy Sender ’13 also took part in the trip.
