Bobbi Brown ’79 speaks to Boston Globe about her career in makeup
Bobbi Brown ’79 was featured in a Boston Globe story regarding her influence on the beauty industry and her continued support of Emerson. The article is the cover story of the “G” section (June 23).
Brown is an internationally renowned makeup artist, a cosmetics industry entrepreneur, and a member of the College’s Board of Trustees. She studied theatrical makeup at Emerson and founded Bobbi Brown Cosmetics in 1991.
Cosmetics mogul Bobbi Brown ’79 has 18 freestanding stores, and her products are sold in nearly 1,000 stores in 56 countries around the globe.
“She has given women so much confidence. She’s really the first one to show women how to do their own makeup and to show them not to be afraid to do it,’’ Felicia Milewicz, beauty director of Glamour magazine, told the Globe. “Her idea of natural beauty really changed everything. It’s the idea that women should wear the makeup rather than the makeup wearing them.’’
Brown and her husband, Steven Plofker, donated funds in 2009 for the gym in Piano Row, which is named after the couple. Another generous gift from Brown in 2003 enabled the College to build professional makeup studios in the Tufte Performance and Production Center.
