Emerson College is one of only 133 colleges nationwide to have both its men’s and women’s soccer teams named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award winner lists. The Lions are the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference team included on both lists and are also the only GNAC team on the men’ list.
To qualify for the award a team must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The Emerson women’s squad posted a 3.52 GPA and the men’s team logged a 3.34 cume.
“Once again our student-athletes have shown their versatility, combining excellent academic performance with quality soccer. We’re extremely proud of how well our athletes represent Emerson in all ways.”
There were 440 women’s teams that qualified for the honor; 190 men’s teams met the qualifications.
GNAC teams joining Emerson on the women’s list were Emmanuel College, Johnson & Wales University, St. Joseph’s College, Simmons College, and Suffolk University.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that both Emerson teams have qualified for the NSCAA Academic Award.
