Scott Sinclair ’10 Has Directorial Debut
“I’m used to long hours, busy days, and sleep deprivation from my days at Emerson,” jokes Scott Sinclair ’10 when asked about how he’s handling the stress of the final few days before his directorial debut of Striking 12 with the SpeakEasy Company.
As a Performing Arts student at Emerson, Sinclair (pictured on the left with performer José Delgado, who’s also the Chorus Instructor at Emerson) saw internships (even unpaid) as a way of getting real-life experience and making connections in the community and professional world.
“There are so many opportunities, and it’s up to each student to take them. The ones who will be successful are the ones who put a lot on their plate and take advantage of what the school offers.”

Sinclair interned at SpeakEasy Stage Company and moved into a full-time marketing associate position after graduating last May. Artistic Director of SpeakEasy Paul Daigneault started the independent theater production company when he was 25. He pegged Sinclair to direct Striking 12 after having him assist on a few productions. “He knows that I’m passionate and that I know how to dissect a script. I’m also really fortunate that he understands the challenges of being young and trying to break into the business, so he’s the kind of person who’s willing to take a risk,” said Sinclair.
Striking 12 is a concert with three performers playing their own instruments and acting to bring to life a modern-day, New Year’s Eve story based on the Hans Christian Andersen classic holiday fable The Little Match Girl.
A New England premiere, Striking 12 runs from December 8 to January 2, and will be performed in an intimate cabaret setting on the second floor of the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, in the South End.
