Sixteen Emersonians nominated for Emmys

Sixteen Emerson alumni have been nominated for Primetime, Daytime, and News and Documentary Emmy Awards this year.

Held this year on August 29 and broadcast by NBC, the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony recognizes outstanding achievement in all fields of television production and are presented to individuals and programs that aired in primetime (6:00 pm–2:00 am) during the 2009 calendar year. Four alumni have been nominated for Primetime Emmys.

An additional four Emerson alumni received nominations for the 31st Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards, which will be held September 27 at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Earlier in the summer, at the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony at the Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada, two out of the eight Emerson alumni nominated walked away an award.

Primetime Emmy Nominees

Joe Celli ’91 is nominated for Outstanding Art Direction for Variety, Music, or Nonfiction Programming for his work as art director for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Todd J. Greenwald ’91 is nominated for Outstanding Children’s Program for his work as executive producer of the Disney Channel TV show Wizards Of Waverly Place. Eric Drysdale ’93 is nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Series for his work as a writer on The Colbert Report episode #5076 (in Iraq). Scott Wittman ’76 is nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Special for Special Material Written for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.

Daytime Emmy Award Winners

William Ludel ’70 won for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team as a director on General Hospital, and Ami Schmitz G’97 won for Outstanding Morning Program for her work as a producer on the Today Show.

David Vos ’82 was nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Program as senior producer of This Old House. Margaret Aro ’95 was nominated for Outstanding Morning Program as a producer of Good Morning America. David A. Levinson ’97 was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team as an editor on As the World Turns. Robert Mackler ’72 was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Multiple Camera Editing for a Drama Series as an editor on As The World Turns. Howard Zweig ’68 was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control for a Drama Series as a technical director for All My Children, and Joel Coblenz ’81 was nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Lifestyle/Culinary Program as a director for Food Trip with Todd English.

News and Documentary Emmy Nominees

Judy Tygard ’80 is nominated for Outstanding Coverage of a Breaking News Story in a News Magazine for her work as senior producer of 48 Hours Mystery: Craigslist: Classified for Murder. Randy Barbato ’82 is nominated for Outstanding Nature Programming as a producer for The Last Beekeeper. Ken Fallin ’74 is nominated for Outstanding Promotional Announcement—Episodic for his work as a caricature artist for Squawkbox Icons and Rebels: Caricatures, and Jeremiah Zagar ’03 is nominated for Best Documentary as the director of In a Dream.
