2010 Emerson Alumni Weekend set for June 4-6

Emerson's Alumni Weekend 2010 celebration will be held June 4-6. This year, alumni who graduated in years endings in zero or five will be recognized. Emerson is also celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, the 65th anniversary of the Alumni Association, and the 25th anniversary of Chi Delta Chi.

“Alumni Weekend lets us reconnect with each other and the College,” said Barbara Rutberg, Director of Alumni Relations. “There is always something new to show-off to returning alumni and this year it is the Paramount Center. It's a wonderful opportunity to see classmates, faculty, and share Emerson stories.”

Some of the activities include: guided campus tours; a sunset harbor cruise; President Liebergott's State of the College Address; short seminars on photography, journalism, and theater; and a silent auction with dinner and dancing at the InterContinental Boston. There will also be a ceremony to induct new members into the WERS Hall of Fame as well as a presentation of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Awards.

This year's inductees into the WERS Hall of Fame are: Howard Liberman '68; Elroy Smith '81; and, posthumously, Professor of Mass Communication Ted Phillips.

2010 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are: Judyann Johnson Elder '67, Michael Mendenhall '84, and Clyde Terry '74. The Young Alumni Achievement Award recipient is Brendan McCarthy '04.

At the luncheon for the 75th anniversary of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, retiring faculty members Anthony Bashir, David Luterman, and David Maxwell will be honored.

During her State of the College Address, President Liebergott will discuss future plans for the recently opened Paramount Center, the vision for the new Los Angeles Center, and Emerson's next strategic steps.

On Saturday, June 5, a reception and soccer game will be held in honor of former teacher, soccer coach, and EVVY advisor Pete Chvany who is retiring this year. Emerson has established the Pete Chvany Scholarship to ensure that his legacy lives on by providing financial assistance to students with a commitment to the areas of interest that he championed.
