Update on Sidewalk Expansion Project

Dear Emerson Community,

The College is pleased to let you know that the sidewalk expansion project will start early next week. The sidewalk will be widened from the corner of Boylston and Tremont streets to the entrance of Boylston Place. The expansion will also include a raised crosswalk from the sidewalk at the top of Boylston Place across to the sidewalk along Boston Common.

Phase 1 of the project will focus on staging materials and equipment. Barriers will be installed in the street on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, to re-route the pedestrian flow into a temporary walking lane. There will be ADA-compliant bridges from the temporary walking lane to each of the following building entrances:

·      Little Building

·      Colonial Building Residence Hall

·      Colonial Theatre

·      Walker Building

Pedestrian staging will take place between 7:00 pm and 3:00 am next week, and from approximately 8:00 am to 4:00 pm the following week. If necessary, there may be an occasional dropoff or pickup of materials in the evening. Construction updates will be sent weekly until further notice.

Phase 1 of this project is scheduled to last from next week to a winter stop in December. Phase 2 starts up in April, with an estimated completion date of September 2020.

Thank you in advance for your support of this exciting and much anticipated expansion of the Boylston Street sidewalk.
