Have you ever wished you could ask an Emerson alum about an industry you’re interested in? Wanted to know what their job is like? How they got their first job? How they made the most of their time at Emerson? Whether you should be thinking about grad school?
Emerge is where you can do that – easily. Think of it as an Emerson-only LinkedIn except better, because everyone in Emerge is there because they want to help fellow Emersonians – like YOU.
It takes three minutes to sign up – just answer a few questions that will help Emerge suggest alumni for you to connect with, and you’ll be ready to go.
Go to the Mentor section and use the Search feature at the top of the page. Search for alumni working in the industries you’re interested in, or living in the places you want to live, or who were in the same students orgs as you are. Look at the profiles of the alumni who show up after the search, and click on “Send Message” to the ones who interest you.
Not sure what to say? No problem – there are message templates for you to use if you need to. Tip: make sure you really customize the messages, so they don’t read like form emails. (And don’t ask for a job or an internship! You’re just reaching out to ask questions and start what hopefully will be a helpful professional relationship… with the potential for opportunities down the road.)
Remember that alumni cannot see student profiles in Emerge, so it’s up to you to reach out to start the convo.
As of July, Emerge has a new look! Some of the updated features include:
