As the clock struck 8 p.m. on Halloween Eve, the Lion’s Den and The Loft transformed into Emerson’s first Phantasmagorium, an evening of magic and mystery. It was the signature event of a weeklong hALLoween celebration at Emerson, connecting the community through creative programming and immersive experiences.
On Thursday night, the campus-wide celebration featured two DJs spinning on separate stages, while purple neon lights pulsed to the beat, giving the night an electric glow. Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” blasted through the speakers, pulling students onto the dance floor to sing, move, and revel in the spooky spirit. Off in a corner, students from the Writing, Literature & Publishing Department added their own creative flair, sharing original ghost stories. A photo booth and psychic readings topped off the night.
Students came dressed to impress, from horror-film characters to fantasy creatures, competing in a costume contest.
“I spent… an hour doing my makeup and picking out a coat for this party,” said Charles Gru ’29, dressed as the Joker. “I had fun.”
Dressed in an Alien Pick Me Up costume, Media Technologies and Production Event Technology & Streaming Specialist P.J. Goodwin, who was involved in planning for the event, was proud of the party.
“It’s been amazing to see it all come together,” said Goodwin. “It’s pretty special to be part of something that’s hoping to become a tradition.”
