Alum Kamara ’23 Soars on National Peter Pan Tour: Boston Globe

Performing Arts alum Hawa Kamara ’23 landed a significant theatre role right out of Emerson, playing the role of Wendy in the national “Peter Pan” tour, a modern version adapted by Native American playwright Larissa FastHorse. The musical visits Boston January 21-February 7.

Kamara auditioned for the role after director Lonny Price, a guest artist on campus, encouraged students to tryout.

“Knowing this was a more contemporary version made me more comfortable, especially when I arrived at rehearsal and saw people who looked like me,” she says.

“[Wendy] is still a caretaker — someone who wants to make people feel better, but she announces right up front she wants to be a surgeon, so we also see her ambition and determination.”
