Raynauld, Riley on Meta’s End of Fact-Checking: TechNewsWorld, NBC Boston

School of Communication faculty Vincent Raynauld and Tim Riley give their perspective on the news from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg that its platforms will no longer utilize fact-checking, and use a community notes feature in place.

Raynauld to TechNewsWorld: “Even though the content might be flagged as being disinformation or misleading, the content is still available to people to consume.”

“So even though some people might see the community note, they might still consume that content, and that content might still have an impact on their attitudes, knowledge, and behavior.”

Riley advised on Facebook’s fact-checking years ago. “They ‘re looking to Trump and trying to say, don’t come at us with regulations, don’t come at us with trying to dismantle things; we’ve got this under control,” he told NBC Boston.
