Griswold-Jenkins Uses Comedy to Address Serious Topics in ‘Good Girl’: BroadwayWorld.com

Directed by Assistant Director for Comedic Arts Christopher Griswold-Jenkins, the play Good Girl, recently received a 4-star review from Theatre Village.

That review comes after a successful summer of performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play was written and stars Griswold-Jenkins’ wife Rhiannon Jenkins, who previously spoke to Emerson Today about the play.

The couple recently spoke with BroadwayWorld.com about directing decisions for the play, getting into comedy, and more. Griswold-Jenkins was asked about how the play balances comedy while discussing potentially serious topics.

Comedy acts as a buffer against tragedy. It lets the audience safely explore tough ideas and emotions, giving them a way to process things they’ve gone through or might encounter in the future. When those moments happen, they’ll recall how they felt in the audience.
