Alums Pick Up Creative Arts Emmys

Three Emerson alums – Christopher Battaglia ’14, Matt Benson ’18, and John Frink ’85 took home Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend.

The awards, honoring creative and technical achievement in television, were presented over two days.

On Saturday, January 6, Battaglia, a sound designer on HBO’s The Last of Us, won Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) for his work on the episode “When You’re Lost in the Darkness.”

On Sunday, January 7, Frink, an executive producer of The Simpsons (FOX), won Outstanding Animated Program for the “Treehouse of Horror XXXIII” episode. Lighting director Benson won Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special for his work on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Frink won in the same category for The Simpsons in 2019. Battaglia and Benson were first-time Emmy winners.

Nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards were announced in July 2023, but the ceremonies, normally held in September, were delayed due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes.

The Primetime Emmys will be broadcast Monday, January 15, 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT on FOX.
