The Daniels Thank Faculty Flynn and Freeman during Independent Spirit Awards Speech

Alumni Daniel Kwan ’10 and Daniel Scheinert ’09 continued their awards season success over the weekend, winning seven categories, including Best Director, for their multiverse indie film Everything Everywhere All at Once at the Independent Spirit Awards.

At the beginning of their Best Directing acceptance speech, the Daniels thanked Visual and Media Arts faculty Peter Flynn and John Craig Freeman directly for believing in them.

“Peter Flynn, thank you for being the first teacher to recognize my talent, and your enthusiasm still sticks with me today. “

“John Craig Freeman, you taught us how to teach ourselves.”

The film leads Academy Award nominations with 11 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for Kwan and Scheinert. The ceremony takes place Sunday, March 12.
