EVVYS Wrap-Up: Celebrities, Hip Hop Society Performance, Acceptance Speeches, and More

As the saying goes, the show must go on! And everyone involved in EVVYs 39 created an amazing virtual awards show. Noted Emersonian alum, including advisor and trustee Kevin Bright ’76, Maria Menounos ‘00, Steven Wright ’78, and Jay Leno ’73, got in on the action, announcing award winners.

The show started with an original and cheeky Emerson-centric musical number: “Do What You Love”.

The celebrities got into their own roles as award presenters. For the Performance category, actress Jennifer Coolidge ’85 wore an old school SCUBA helmet; Henry Winkler ’67 reminisced about his favorite pizza during his college years in the 1960s; and magician Justin Willman ’02 brought some flair.

Awards were also given in the following categories: Marketing and Communication; Theater; Journalism; Audio and Post Production; Writing; Television; and Film.

While they couldn’t perform live, there were still great virtual performances by the Hip Hop Society and surf rock band Sunsetta.

A medley of all EVVY39 acceptance speeches was also made available:

This year’s show was unique because it was a fundraiser for the Emerson College Student & Family Crisis Relief Fund. The fund supports students to continue their Emerson education and provide financial relief to those impacted by COVID-19.
