Smith on Marketing Amidst Covid-19: Voice of America

Brent Smith, Professor and Chair of the Marketing Communication department, contributed to a Voice of America piece regarding social media influencers during the COVID-19 pandemic and said companies need to be thoughtful about their brands.

With over 14% unemployment in the U.S., many consumers are focused on necessities relating to food, shelter, and basic health needs. Consumers understand that businesses need to make money, but they still want to see some kind of empathy to accompany the marketed product.
