Call for Submissions: New England Graduate Media Symposium

Dear Graduate Students,

The 2019 New England Graduate Media Symposium (NEGMS) is open for submissions. This year’s theme is Defining Journeys. Adventure. Pilgrimage. Expedition. Migration. An exploration of the journeys that define us.

Graduate students are invited to explore different interpretations of the word “journey” with us March 15-16. From road trips and spiritual quests to border crossings and the many ways that our lives change, we will revisit the journeys that have shaped and defined us through various art forms.

The NEGMS is open to all graduate students who are either currently attending a program based in one of the six New England states, or have graduated from one of them within the past 12 months. We are open to all mediums of creative work that relate to the theme, Defining Journeys. This might include, but is not limited to, film/video, painting, photography, sculpture, performance, installation, and interactive art. We also accept scholarly works about media and the arts.

You can submit work here. Deadline for submissions is January 31.

On the day of the symposium, accepted artists will be organized into panels of three to five artists. Each panelist will present their work individually, followed by moderated Q&A sessions with the audience. The 2019 NEMGS Selection Committee will announce the “Best Project” award, with a $250 prize, on the day of the symposium.

This is an amazing opportunity for graduate students working in media and the arts in New England to connect and present their work to each other, faculty, and professional colleagues. A detailed schedule and keynote speaker for the symposium will be announced shortly. We encourage everyone in the Emerson community to be a part of this inspiring journey!

Please email negmediasymposium@gmail.com with questions.

Best,

Amber Yang and Ellen Washington
NEMGS co-directors
