President Pelton on Boston Magazine cover
President Lee Pelton was featured on the cover of Boston Magazine’s May 2014 special issue, “The Power of Ideas,” which celebrates 75 “bold thinkers who are shaping our City (and our world).”
On the cover with Pelton are Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, City Councilor at Large Ayanna Pressley, Boston Globe Publisher and Red Sox owner John Henry, and Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Inside, the feature story highlights Pelton’s launch of the Emerson Accelerator Program that helps entrepreneurs start businesses before graduating, which the magazine points out is a “rarity at an arts college”; the establishment of the Elma Lewis Center for Civic Engagement, using arts and communication to serve the common good and make a difference in the community and the world; and the grand opening of Emerson College Los Angeles.
Pelton’s initiative to encourage conversations about gun violence and the creation of the College President’s Gun Violence Resource Center website are also highlighted.
Also included in the article was alumna Malia Lazu ’99, executive director and co-founder of Future Boston.
The Boston Magazine issue hit newsstands the weekend of April 26. The article is available online.
