Emerson LA helps economic growth

A coalition of Hollywood property owners whose aim is to keep its neighborhood clean and spur economic growth is already seeing the positive effects of Emerson College Los Angeles since it opened earlier this semester.

“Before Emerson arrived, this was a barren, lonely parking lot,” said Sarah Besley, executive director of the Sunset & Vine Business Improvement District, a nonprofit organization that works with business owners to improve the neighborhood. “Now we’re sitting in this amazing campus that’s bustling with activity, students, and young people who are pursuing their dreams.

“It’s very exciting,” she said.

Besley has begun to see Emerson students utilizing nearby businesses, such as coffee shops, stores, and restaurants.

“We really want to thank Emerson,” she said. “We’re really looking forward to a lifetime partnership.”
