Mahoney ’89, longtime journalist, dies at 46
Chris Mahoney ’89, a longtime journalist and part-time faculty member in the Journalism Department from 2008 until 2012, has died. He was 46.
His passing was announced January 23 on the Boston Business Journal’s website. Mahoney worked as a reporter and editor for more than 14 years at the Boston Business Journal, and then moved to the Baltimore Business Journal in 2012.
Paul Niwa, associate professor and interim chair of the Journalism Department, said his colleagues and students are saddened to hear news of Mahoney’s passing.
“He always brought a smile to the students’ faces,” Niwa said.
“It’s very important for our faculty to be models of professionalism for our students,” Niwa continued. “Chris was so good at creating that type of atmosphere. He was genuinely a great person, and we are going to miss him.”
Before the Boston Business Journal, Mahoney worked as a reporter for Insurance Times and the Patriot Ledger newspaper of Quincy, Massachusetts, his hometown.
