Ronald L. Walker, an Emerson Trustee and president and founding partner of Next Street, was honored this week with the Social Leadership Award at the Boston Business Journal Corporate Citizenship Summit.

The well-deserved recognition reflects upon Walker’s leadership and work at Next Street, as well as his commitment to the broader Boston community, which includes his continued service to Emerson College, Boston Medical Center, Mayor Menino’s Casino Host Committee, and many other civic-minded organizations.

Walker, a former executive vice president at Sovereign Bank, formed Next Street with business partner Tim Ferguson in 2005. Next Street was formed to serve successful urban businesses that were largely being ignored by traditional financial institutions.

The Boston Business Journal’s summit is held every year to convene “business leaders on the topics of corporate philanthropy and social responsibility,” the newspaper said in a statement.
