Emersonians nominated for Tony Awards

Several Emerson College alumni are nominees for 2012 Tony Awards, which will be broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre on CBS Sunday, June 10, at 8:00 pm EST/7:00 pm CST.The Tony Awards recognize achievement in live Broadway theater.

Gore Vidal’s The Best Man
Best Revival of a Play

Jacalyn Barlia Florin ’81, producer
Jesus Christ Superstar
Best Revival of a Musical

Jason Grossman ’02, producer
Peter and the Starcatcher
nominated for 9 Tony Awards (most nominations for any play this season), including Best Play

Judith Resnick ’64, producer
The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess
Best Revival of a Musical

In addition to those nominations, Jessica Phillips ‘94 plays Marla McGowan, the female lead, in Leap of Faith, which is nominated for Best Musical. Also, two other alumni work for The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., which will receive the Regional Theatre Award: Hannah O’Neil ‘09 and Justin Silverman ’11.

Neil Patrick Harris will host the 66th Annual Tony Awards. They are presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The two organizations have jointly administered the Tonys since 1967, the year of the first Tony telecast.
