WERS to host collegiate a cappella contest

WERS 88.9 FM, Emerson College’s award-winning, student-run radio station, will host its annual All A Cappella competition Sunday, March 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Cutler Majestic Theatre.

WERS will host its annual college a cappella competition later this month.

The five student a cappella groups that will compete this year for $750 and the title of Best Collegiate A Cappella Group are: UMass Doo Wop Shop, Brandeis Voicemale, Chorallaries of MIT, Heightsmen of Boston College, and the Bostonians of Boston College. There will also be a special guest performance by Emerson’s own a cappella group, A Cappellics Anonymous.

WERS DJ’s and Emerson students Danielle Pointer and Griffin Lane will emcee the big event. Guest judges are Naveed Easton, Musical Director of Emerson’s a cappella group Noteworthy and Christopher Diaz, Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) member.

WERS’s weekend All A Cappella show is one of the station’s most popular programs, and its annual All A Cappella competition regularly sells out.
Tickets to the show are $25 and can be purchased at www.aestages.org or by calling 617-824-8000. The competition will also be broadcast live on wers.org and live streamed on WERS 88.9 FM. For more information, visit www.wers.org.
