And the 2012 Oscar winners are…
The Emerson community came together Sunday night both online and off to celebrate the 84th Annual Academy Awards and the Emersonians who were a part of it.
The Office of Communications and Marketing hosted an Emerson Online Watch Party via Twitter in which students, alumni, faculty, staff, and others shared their opinions, congratulations, and photos from the red carpet as well as from Emerson viewing parties.
A crew of Emerson Journalism students traveled to Los Angeles to report from the red carpet and to interview the likes of Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and many others.
The following are a few of the Emerson–related Oscar results:
• Terry George and Oorlagh George—father and sister, respectively, of Terrance “Seamus” George ’09—won Best Short Film (Live Action) for The Shore. Seamus attended the ceremony with his family and was caught by the cameras as his father and sister accepted the award.
• The Descendants, co-produced by Emerson’s Jane and Terry Semel Chair in Screenwriting Jim Taylor, won Best Adapted Screenplay.
• Jennifer Coolidge ’85 and other well-known comedians participated in a sketch during the ceremony about a disastrous imaginary focus group for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
