Emerson Independent Video Wins a Boston/New England Emmy

Emerson student group Emerson Independent Video (EIV) won the James Thistle Student Production Emmy Award at the 33rd Boston/New England Emmy Awards banquet at Gillette Stadium at Patriot Place May 22.

The Emerson Independent Video’s submission to the Emmys was a Fall 2009 episode of EIV News @ 9, a series that highlights local stories, but focuses on national and world news. Earlier this year, the same show won an Associated Press Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association for Best College Newscast. Students Katie Eastman, Meghan Keane, and Kevin Cochran produced the episode.

The episode featured reporters Katie Eastman, Christine Ryan, Meghan Keane, John Quinones, and Wynn Harrison, with Weather Watch by Spencer Parente and sports by Evan Anderholm.

This is the second year in a row that Emerson Independent Video News has won the Emmy award.

“Emerson Independent Video is completely created and run by the students,” said Assistant Professor Department of Visual and Media Arts Daniel Gaucher. “For them to be able to achieve this recognition on their own is pretty impressive.”

The Boston/New England Emmys were judged by the Pacific Southwest, Lower Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
