The National Weather Service is forecasting a period of dangerously cold temperatures followed by a potentially impactful winter storm that may affect the Boston area later this weekend into early next week.
Extreme Cold | Friday night into Saturday morning
Wind chill temperatures between –10°F and –25°F are expected across southern New England. Community members are urged to limit time outdoors, dress appropriately for extreme cold, and exercise caution when traveling.
Potential Winter Storm | Sunday into Monday
There is increasing potential for a significant snowstorm beginning Sunday morning and continuing into Monday. Current forecasts indicate:
- A high likelihood of moderate to major winter storm impacts in the Boston area
- A strong probability of significant snowfall, with a meaningful chance of totals exceeding 6 inches, and a lower but notable risk of 12 inches or more
- Hazardous travel conditions, particularly Sunday afternoon through Monday
As the storm’s track and expected snowfall amounts continue to be updated, Emerson College is closely monitoring conditions and coordinating with city and state partners. Any decisions regarding campus operations, classes, or events will be communicated as soon as they are made via email.
Updates will also be posted on Emerson Today and on emerson.edu.
We encourage everyone to monitor conditions before traveling and to take appropriate precautions if travel is necessary. Up-to-date information from the National Weather Service Boston/Norton office is available at weather.gov/box.
