ArtsEmerson Making Art Accessible Through Boston Family Days

ArtsEmerson is one of nine local performing arts institutions to participate in the inaugural fall season of Boston Family Days, which will provide free access to live performances to Boston students and their families.
This new program is an expansion of the successful Boston Family Days museum partnerships, expanding cultural access to performing arts institutions through free tickets, wraparound programming, and family-friendly events.
ArtsEmerson will offer Boston families free tickets to SpaceBridge, running Friday, November 21 – Sunday, November 23 at the Robert J. Orchard Stage. The show, created by Irina Kruzhilina, brings together Russian refugee children who fled to the U.S. due to their families’ opposition to the war in Ukraine, and their American peers to build a world where friendships and empathy can thrive.
“At ArtsEmerson, our core belief is that art catalyzes civic transformation. We are over the moon to be part of this impactful initiative that invites Boston’s families to experience bold new theater and shape the conversation of what we want Boston to be,” said Ronee Penoi, Interime Executive Director of the Office of the Arts and ArtsEmerson Director of Artistic Programming.

ArtsEmerson attended the official announcement of the Boston Family Days fall season on September 25 at Boston Arts Academy with Kidding Around, an Emerson student-run group that stages theatre for young audiences, which performed at the event.
Other participating institutions include the American Repertory Theater, Berklee, Boch Center, Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Huntington Theatre, and Wheelock Family Theatre.
“I am grateful for the enthusiastic support of our incredible partners, which has enabled the City to expand the range of opportunities to new historic heights,” Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said. “By offering activities to spark wonderful curiosity, and discovery in all our students, we are investing in lifelong learning in our city.”
