A Community Remembers Marsha Della Giustina

Friends, family, colleagues, and former students came from far and wide to the Cutler Majestic Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 10, to celebrate the life and legacy of Professor Emerita Marsha Della Giustina, who died in June at the age of 76.

Over the course of two hours, more than 20 alums of Dr. Della Giustina’s Journalism classes, including many of the biggest names in Boston broadcast news (celebration of life host Maria Stephanos ’88, MA ’93, Gene Lavanchy ’86, Sharman Sacchetti ’93, David Wade ’95, Mike Beaudet ’92, Bob Ward ’83, and more) spoke in person or via video about the enormous influence she had, both on them as journalists, and on the entire New England news ecosystem.

Several of Dr. Della Giustina’s former colleagues at Emerson and in local newsrooms, paid tribute to the woman who built the College’s broadcast journalism program and broke so many barriers for women journalists. Also paying tribute were her sister, Jo-Ann Della Giustina, and Emerson’s president and interim provost, Jay Bernhardt and Jan Roberts Breslin.
