Community Advisory: Extreme Cold Temperature Warning

Dear Emerson Community,

Extreme Cold Temperature Warning:

Please be advised that the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a “dangerously cold” warning for Friday and Saturday. The wind chills are expected to exceed -30 degrees. These temperatures can result in frostbite in as little as 15 minutes, and hypothermia.

It is recommended that people stay inside during this time. Should you need to be outside, dress in layers, travel with a companion, and always be aware of your surroundings with shelter nearby.

To prevent more serious problems, take action as soon as you notice early signs of frostbite or hypothermia.

1.      Get out of the cold, wind, rain, or snow if possible.

2.      Add warm layers of clothing.

3.      Eat carbohydrates.

4.      Drink fluids.

5.      Move your body to help warm your core. …

6.      Warm up any area with frostnip.

If you need assistance contact the Emerson College Police Department at 617-824-8555 or call 911.

Stay warm and stay safe.
Chief Bob Smith
