Announcement: Institutional Advancement Leadership
Dear members of the Emerson community,
I write to share the news that after several years of dedicated leadership, John Malcolm, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, will be leaving Emerson next month to manage an urgent family health situation that will require his relocation for a period of time.
As VP, John has led the advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, marketing, communications, and digital web services teams during a challenging time for the College as it persevered through, and emerged from, a global pandemic. During that time Emerson experienced the two strongest gift revenue years in the institution’s history, and has been able to recruit exceptionally talented development leaders who have, under John’s leadership, engaged in entrepreneurial relationships across the college to create new connections and support for Emerson.
During his tenure at Emerson, John has thoughtfully shaped the Institutional Advancement office and laid the foundation for more robust development and fundraising efforts and an eventual campaign. He has provided insightful counsel to members of the President’s Council, and Board of Trustees, initiated new relationship building efforts, and has developed creative opportunities for building a philanthropic culture on campus.
I am grateful for John’s work on behalf of the College and his leadership during a particularly disruptive time for development work. I have every confidence the Advancement team will continue the direction and momentum John has generated.
We are working on a succession plan for leadership of the IA office and will share more information soon.
Sincerely,
William P. Gilligan
Interim President
