Statement from Emerson College
Emerson College is committed to fostering a community that is free from power-based interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, which has been all too common on college campuses throughout the United States for far too long. We have received questions about individual cases. Because of both strict federal law protecting student privacy and our own concern for safeguarding the statements of parties and witnesses, we are not able to disclose such information, including whether individuals brought reports to the Title IX Office or were the subject of such reports. To be clear, when the College receives reports of misconduct, they are addressed with consideration for the safety of our community and the wishes of the reporting parties. The College has worked to strengthen its response to allegations of misconduct, including by forming a Presidential Working Group in Spring 2019 to consider the sexual misconduct ecosystem on campus. We will continue this critical work as we review our policies against the backdrop of the new regulations issued by the Department of Education.
