Pelton to Join Panel on Racism and Policing, COVID-19
President Lee Pelton will join former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and a panel of local leaders online Tuesday, June 16, for The Pandemic and the Police: A Conversation About a Moment of Profound Change in America, hosted by CommonWealth Magazine.
The town hall event “will explore the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, as well as the systemic racism and violence against Black citizens by police,” and will be streamed live at 5:00 pm, on CommonWealth‘s Facebook page and YouTube channel. It also will be recorded for later viewing.

Patrick, governor of the commonwealth from 2007-2015, will moderate the town hall. In addition to Pelton, panelists will include Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, president and CEO of DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement and Catalyst Institute, and former state Rep. Juana Matias, COO of MassINC.
Pelton made headlines earlier this month, when he wrote a deeply personal and resolutely challenging letter to the Emerson community detailing his personal experiences with racism and asking community members what they will do to help dismantle systemic racism.
