The Government of Cape Verde has honored Emerson Professor Claire Andrade-Watkins for her contributions to Cape Verdean culture.

Her 2006 film, “Some Kind of Funny Porto Rican?”: A Cape Verdean American Story, is a critically acclaimed documentary about the Cape Verdean community in the Fox Point section of Providence, Rhode Island, a unique community of the Africana Diaspora.

About 800 people attended the September 26 gala, which was held at the Venus de Milo restaurant in Swansea, Massachusetts.
