Journalism alumni win local 2014 Emmys

Seven Emerson alumni working in the television news industry won Boston/New England Emmy Awards on June 7.

The 37th annual award ceremony was hosted by the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Katie Eastman ’11 won two awards in the categories of Video Essay for a report on the Boston Marathon bombings, and Video Journalist for her work for the Boston Herald’s website.

Richard Feindel ’09 won in the category of Photographer, Short Form for his work as a photographer for WCVB (Boston). Feindel was nominated in five other categories.

Jennifer Baglio ’09 won in the category of Sports Series for her work as a producer for Red Sox Report, an in-house production by the Boston Red Sox.

Eric J. Budney ’94 won for Feature News Report, Light Feature for his work as a photographer for WFSB (Hartford). Budney was nominated in three other categories.

Mike Beaudet ’92 won for News Specialty Report, Politics/Government for his work as an on-air reporter for WFXT (Boston).

Gerry Wardwell ’80, assistant news director at WCVB (Boston), and Lisa Simmons, MA ’02, producer at WCVB, won for Continuing Coverage, 24 Hours for their work on coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Six other alumni received nominations.

Abby Niezgoda ’11 was nominated for News Specialty Report, Arts/Entertainment for her work as a photographer and editor at WLNE (Providence).

David Wade ’95 was nominated for Reporter, General Assignment and Writer, News for his work at WBZ (Boston) as a reporter and anchor.

Doreen Scanlon, MA ’04, was nominated for News Specialty Report, Arts/Entertainment for her work at WLNE (Providence).

Ed Harding ’75 was nominated for Anchor, News and Interview/Discussion for his work at WCVB (Boston), where he is an evening news anchor.

Marina Fueller Giordano ’93 was nominated for Director, Live or Live to Tape for her work as a director at WHDH (Boston).

Parker Gavigan, MA ’04, was nominated for Investigative Report and News Specialty Report, Business/Consumer for his work at WJAR (Providence).
