Performing Arts holds Awards Soiree

The Performing Arts Department held its first Annual Awards Soiree on May 10 to celebrate the many gifts of the 2013 graduating class and present several awards to seniors who graduated May 12.

“It is nearly impossible to single anyone out given the grace, talent, and intelligence of our graduating class,” said Melia Bensussen, department chair. “Thank you all for being a part of this vibrant community. Graduates, remember the best and worst of times are no doubt still ahead, but we in PA at Emerson are always here for you.”

College Awards

Kelsey Hogan won the Nicole Dufresne Award; Rose Fieschko won the Shoolman Award; Hallie Brevetti won the Waldman Award; Andrea Gordillo and Alexandra Lonati won the Lotta Theatrical Fund Nominees; and James Kennedy won the Betsy Carpenter Award.

Departmental Area Awards

The Theatre Education Graduate Program Award went to Emma Futhey for her thesis, “Trauma and the Theatrical Aesthetic: Post 9/11 Trauma Theory in Contemporary British Documentary Theatre,” and Tara Brooke Watkins for her thesis, Revealing Her Voice Through Her Body: The Social Effects of Public Exploration of Memory in the Performance Art of Robbie McCauley.”

The Acting Award went to Melissa Jesser, Marc Pierre, and Rebecca Schneebaum.

The Design/Technology Award went to Kelly Dufel.

The Musical Theatre Award went to Abigail Goldfarb and Lanea Ritrovato.

The Stage and Production Management Award went to Faye Allison.

The Theatre Education Award went to Natalie Bruno and Bryan Curran.

The Theatre Studies Award went to Kevin Dwyer.

The Chair’s Award went to Alexander Ates and Meghan Mueller.
