Men’s Tennis Team keeps perfect season alive
Another nearly flawless day on the courts kept the Emerson Men's Tennis Team’s perfect season alive March 29 as the Lions toppled the Rhode Island College Anchormen 8-1. With the win Emerson is now 4-0 as RIC drops to 1-2.
Doubles action saw the Lions roll flawlessly again as sophomore Roland Lewan and Niklas Rhodes pulled in first with an 8-3 win in the three spot as junior Zach Connolly and freshman Vincent Castellini put up an 8-4 in the two spot. Number one was a battle, though, as sophomore Kevin Blisniuk and junior Brent Walkoff found themselves facing RIC's Alex Werchadlo and Ben Proctor only to see the Lions rally up to pull off a 9-7 (7-5) win for the sweep.
Singles action proved to be a similar story as Castellini led off with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the three spot while Blisniuk made quick work of Werchadlo in the one spot, 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match.
But Emerson wasn't done yet as Brent Walkoff and Matthew Clark both won in straight sets. RIC finally struck back in the five spot with a tie break win over Rhodes before Connolly fired up to throw down a 6-2, 2-6 1-0 (10-6) win in the four to finish off the 8-1 win.
The Lions roll back into GNAC play Saturday, April 6, as they travel to face the Falcons of Albertus Magnus in a 1:00 pm match in New Haven, Connecticut.
