Men’s Soccer beats Emmanuel

Emerson Men’s Soccer team goalkeeper Noah Price ’12 had eight huge saves at Wednesday night’s game, giving the team just enough room to step up and take a 1-0 win over formidable Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Emmanuel College at Rotch Field in Boston. The match, Price’s second back between the posts, gave Emerson its fourth win of the season as the team moves to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference while dropping Emmanuel to 4-3-4 overall and 1-3 in the competition.

The first half was all Emmanuel. They pummeled the Lion defense with eight shots in the 45 minutes of action, with Price the star of the show, making seven saves in the half. The Lion attack and strategy seemed to work, though, as Emmanuel stepped up the physical play of the game and collected nine fouls in the half to Emerson’s three.

With both sides pushing for offensive leverage in the second half to break the 0-0 stalemate, the play only increased in intensity as three yellow cards were issued from the 70th minute until the end of the game, with the Emmanuel Saints taking two and Lions one. Emerson’s persistence paid off as it out-shot Emmanuel 10-7 in the second half. The winning goal came in the 71st minute of play as Lucas Parolin ’13 set up a cross that was deflected to Jacob Lawrence, who put away the only shot that mattered in the match to make it 1-0.

Emerson’s Men’s Soccer team’s next game is Saturday (October 1) against conference opponent Rivier at Rotch Field at 1:00 pm.
