Students recognized at athletics celebration

Three seniors were presented with the top Emerson College athletics awards at the recent Athletics Department’s annual celebration and recognition night. Basketball player Kathy Andrade ’11 (Hull, Mass.) and soccer player Eric Dabdoub (a Berklee College senior) were named the female and male student athletes of the year. Soccer star Lindsay D’Andrea ’11 (Medford, N.J.) was named the scholar-athlete of the year.

Andrade finished her four years of competition at number two on the career scoring and rebounding lists for Emerson women’s basketball. Andrade scored 1,182 points and pulled down 761 rebounds over her four years. She was a two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference player and completed her career by competing in the New England Women’s Basketball Association Senior Classic. As valuable as she was to Emerson on the court, she may have been even more valuable off. Andrade was the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and an Orientation Chair. She also served on the Campus Activities Board and is a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi.

For the first time ever, the Emerson male student-athlete of the year is not an Emerson student, and is from outside the United States.

Dabdoub, who is a music production major at Berklee College of Music, competed for four years with Emerson through the National Collegiate Athletics Association-approved consortium agreement between Emerson and Berklee.

Dabdoub was a three-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference selection, including first-team honors in 2009 and 2010. After the 2009 season, he was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III All-Star team. He scored 31 goals, added 11 assists, and scored 7 game-winning goals during his career despite not scoring a point as a freshman. As a junior, he was the leading scorer in the entire Great Northeast Athletic Conference. He finished his career by playing in the New England Senior All-Star game.

D’Andrea is the first Emerson College female, and only the third Emerson student-athlete overall, to qualify for the Academic All-America Ballot. A three-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Star, Lindsay was an Eastern College Athletic Conference All-New England selection in 2009 when she scored 19 goals and had 9 assists. In her career, she had 49 goals and 24 assists for 122 points. She also scored 10 game-winning goals over her four years. D’Andrea led the 2010 Emerson women’s soccer team with 10 goals and 8 assists. She was named to the 2010 Academic All-District first team. Off the field, she is a member of the Gold Key Honor Society and is the treasurer of Emerson’s Stork Magazine.
